About: This Russian Icon depicts St. John, Theologian in Silence holding the Gospel. To his left is an angel whispering the Gospel into St. John’s ear, yet the Apostle does not look at him, but casts his eyes down in contemplation. On his right side is the Eagle the symbol of St. John. The Saint’s right hand is raised up, making the sign of the cross over his mouth. The great Evangelist is reduced to silence.
