Framed Size: Height 37 cm x Width 42.5 cm x Depth 2 cm
Image Size: Height 26.5 cm x Width 33.5 cm
Condition: This work is in good condition with minor wear. It is glazed with anti-reflective invisible glass “ArtGlass AR70” which has a UV block of 70% visible light transmission of 99% and a reflection of 1%.
Provenance: Private collection London.
Annotation attributing this work to Herman van Swanevelt verso to the original backing board.

About: This work closely relates to a group called the Italianate painters. These were a collective of 17th-century northern European painters, principally Dutch, who travelled in Italy and adopted the Italian style of landscape painting, whilst also incorporating Italian models and motifs into their works.

Chief among the Italianates were Bartholomeus Breenbergh, Jan Booth, Nicolaes Berchem, and Jan Asselijn. Italianate landscapes are often viewed as idyllic representations designed to pull the viewer into another world.
